Gallery Review
Here is a gallery review on 'Galerie F' in Chicago. The presentation details the gallery, my experience in my visit, the gallery philosophy as well as the reviews that were given to the gallery. Below the presentation describes the importance of gallery visits for students.
It is my job as an educator to inspire students as well as give students every possibility to become whatever it is they want for the rest of their lives. It is important for students to experience art in the real world and not just in the classroom. A classroom setting might not be the single best place for a student to learn and be inspired. Gallery visits offer inspiration outside the classroom. Students who visit galleries get a first hand look at different types of art, what professional artists are creating in the real world, as well as an opportunity connect with their community of artists as well as being able to talk and ask questions of different artists and themselves.
Because a student can only learn so much from a teacher in the classroom, it is important for students to learn beyond their classroom walls by being given the opportunity to visit different types of galleries. Gallery visits give students a touch of reality as well as can be used as tools to help inspire students to think about different mediums, techniques, and types of art, which will make them, better artists when they return to the classrooms. Students are able to see up close how a piece of art is made, as well as being able to ask questions to the artists and gallery directors. Many galleries in major cities are open to the public and are welcoming to students. Galleries know the importance of keeping students interested in creating art, which is why most galleries advocate the importance of getting students into their galleries. Gallery directors know that the next great artist is currently in school, and without visits to galleries, might not continue in the arts.
Field trips to professional settings like studios, galleries, and professional workplaces that deal with different fields and types of art and creation are very important, especially to students who are in high school and are thinking about studying art in college. High school is an interesting time for students because it is now when students are thinking about college and what they want to do for the rest of their lives. It would be foolish to assume students who are interested in mechanics or engineering shouldn’t visit machine shops or engineering laboratories. Visiting galleries gives blossoming art students a chance to see professional work and help them decide what path they want to take after high school.
Many things can inspire students. Gallery visits are a fantastic way students are able to see works of art up close, network with other artists and develop a dialog with artists and create connections with the rest of the artistic community. Advocating for field trips or personal gallery visits will only help the students to be inspired as well as an invaluable learning tool to help students become better artists.
